Operational metrics publishing
November 2024
What’s changing
MK.IO provides highly granular engineering telemetry for your running workloads. When you enable monitoring for your project, MK.IO will spin up Prometheus endpoints for you to scrape and integrate into your existing monitoring framework.
Who is impacted
Anyone running production workloads in MK.IO and looking for accurate production monitoring.
Why you would use this / Why it matters
The engineering telemetry provided by MK.IO provides you with the ability to determine whether a workload is in a healthy state. A/V pipelines are notoriously complex pieces of technology and video typically moves through several stages before reaching the end user. MK.IO can simplify and accelerate problem resolution by providing engineering metrics that help narrow down and identify the root cause of issues.
Additional details
When you enable MK.IO metrics in your project, we will deploy one or more Prometheus endpoints for your upstream monitoring system to consume. Each additional endpoint may contain a different subset of data, so it's advisable to scrape from multiple endpoints and aggregate them into a single data source for your monitoring dashboards. We recommend using Grafana for this purpose.
If you don't have an existing monitoring framework, don't worry! Your latest data will be soon visible and available via the MK.IO portal.
Getting started
Instructions on how to activate metrics and how to scrape them in Grafana are provided in this article.
Availability & rollout plan
Metrics publishing is available in all regions starting September 12th 2024.
Early adopters of the feature are required to update their scrape URL based on updated documentation.
